This is a children’s picture book about my maternal grandmother.
This picture book is dedicated to my maternal grandmother. She passed away when I was eighteen, and not being able to accompany her through her final days has remained one of my deepest regrets. I poured both this grief and the warmth of my memories with her into the pages of this book—hoping to express the love I never had the chance to say aloud.
The story unfolds through the imagery of snow. The purity of the snowballs reminds me of my grandmother’s pearl necklace; within each pearl lies a precious memory—playing instruments together, sunbathing on the balcony with our cat, building snowmen during winter. Carrying my guilt and longing, I try to string these snowballs into a complete necklace, yet they always seem to slip away.
But in a dream, my grandmother appears. She embraces me gently and fastens the pearl necklace around my neck. In that moment, I understand: her love has never left. I will continue to live forward, carrying her warmth with me.
