This story reflects on how we, often absorbed in our own expressions and inner worlds, can learn to love real people in all their concreteness. On their journey, Sylvan and Muir will meet their families, friends, and loved ones, and ultimately gather the courage to love specific people in specific, grounded ways.
In this picture book, I continue the narrative threads from my earlier works to explore my relationships with my mother and grandmother. Beyond family, the story also expands toward questions of friendship and intimacy. I designed the journey to unfold across four “stations,” each reflecting a different facet of how we love real people.
